Are people at peace with 'where they are at' spiritually?

The new year of 2010

It's crazy how fast time goes and you don't end up doing half the things you think you want too!!

Nevertheless, have put up a new question - I'm keen for some thoughts, feeling quite stale in the spiritual pondering lately. Have just been cruising and enjoying life ( which is also good - don't get me wrong!)

Hope you have started the year well everyone!

What is happening in our hearts and on the earth?

Hellloo - So im one of these people who have heard about this blog, appluaded it and think the initiative for it is awesome.. but can only honestly claim to looking at it a handful of times - and as it stands I still havent read everything allready posted on here.

I guess that alone raises a point - why do we stuggle to commit to things?

Ive had a bit of a burning desire on my heart for a while about starting a kind of support group in Auckland (no details sorry - that would mean Id have to commit) - and even though the thought hasnt left me, Ive still done nothing about it.

Part of the reason I dont want to write on here is because I dont want to show off my naievity - but Im coming to understand that sometimes you never learn unless you make yourself vulnerable in someway shape or form.

SO that leads me to the question: how do you know if it is God calling you into something or if it is just your own desires leading you astray? or can we even be lead astray? perhaps some would say that God is in everything we do.. and we've just got to enjoy simply being his creative created child... tell me what you think.

Point 2: - Ive been getting into a bit of David Wilkerson lately - have read 'the cross and the switchblade', 'the vision', and listened to his prophesy for NZ from 2005. His heart amazes me. He refers quite a lot to the dramatic changes in weather conditions and the amount of tsunamis, earthquakes and destructive powers that have been shown over the last few years. In fact today - with Samoas 8.? Earthquake/Tsunami I was lead to think of this again -- what are your thoughts on these in reference to end times/revelation. I remember when 9/11 happened how horrified I was - I remember when the tsunami that hit thailand happened how stunned I was - why is it that Im getting less and less stunned and shocked as these events unfold - shouldnt it be the other way around. That the more they happen the more I think about the events described in Revelation?

Out of interest - who has even read revelation?

Anyway - that is enough rambling for a first post!! ha ha- I hope at least some of it made sence.

Hey Mel like the post, you raised a question about “God’s Calling” which is something I haven’t thought about for years, until a fortnight ago when I was having a conversation with Christina’s dad Merv and it came up (if a little indirectly). We were discussing what is “the great commission” and what are we doing in a day to day basis to fulfill that.

For me I think what Jesus was on about was living out life in a way that makes a positive difference to the world (earth, neighbors, your family, enemies etc.). And to infect all those around you with the same desire and knowledge to “bring heaven to earth (quote from Rob Bell Sex God)” or in other words live “Christ like”.

On a day to day basis, I think this means loving and caring for those around us and when we have “good ideas” (like a support group) that will make a positive difference, we do it because we have already been called to do it. Whether we see these “good ideas” as just that an idea (coming from our God given wisdom and creativity) or as God’s prompting; I do not think we need God’s permission to pursue them, we already have it. However I do advocate engaging the brain to plan and understand what we are committing to so our “good ideas” have a good chance of succeeding.

In regard to end times/revelations I may have read revelations once but it was way over my head, can’t say I think too much about what will happen and what does it all mean. All I know is that when these tragedies happen that they remind me we are only on earth for a limited amount of time, today is a blessing and an opportunity. J

Thanks Jared - I like it. Im going to mull on it and come back to you.

Thanks for the comment Mel, I always get nervous about putting my thoughts out there (not so much about people disagreeing, more that I come across a "know it all" and I've got it sorted, which I definitely don't). Always nice to get a comment back, cheers J

Point 1: I like this quote ( I think from St Agustine) 'The glory of God is man fully alive'. I figure if we are living to that and follow the desires of our hearts, our creative flair, our in built interests and ideas then we are fully alive and therefore are glorifying God in that we are living our lives to the full.

I kind of figure he's given me my brain, heart and passions and skills and so figure any good idea as one from God and just follow through on that and ask God that if it's a bad one that he'll make that obvious and not allow it to come to fruition one way or another.

I suppose on reading your post again, I think it's interesting the term 'our own desires leading us astray' as if we always have to keep ourselves in check cos this deep sinful inner self will lead us away from God... I actually tend to think of myself ( innerself that is) as actually wanting to be connected to God. And there are other things that get in the way of that such as laziness or serching to please everyone or... whatever it is. But I am not the one leading myself astray these obstacles are... hmm. Sorry if this is confusing I've just been doing study on Counselling this semester and it's all very interesting about where the root of our problems come from....

Point 2: As for revelations - I too may have read it a longtime ago and was adequately confused and don't think about it to often really. When these things happens it reminds me how small we are in comparision to the power of the world around us. The world does not at all revolve around us!! we stand on it while it revolves and does what it pleases!:-)

General: Good on you for putting up a post Mel! keep it up! we're all just naieve humans trying to work this thing out :-)
